This sport was created from a
combination of other different sports: water skiing,
surf, skateboard and snowboard. The aim is to make
tricks which are similar to those sports but you are
being towed by a special boat, therefore you can use the
boat’s wake in order to get high in the air and be able
to make the tricks. |

It was first practiced in the 80s. In
California, USA. Tony Finn, a surfer who, tired of days
without big wakes, decided to try something different.
he was towed by a boat with a handle and in this way
started with a sport that 10 years later would be the
one that presented the most world wide growth, maybe
because it is easily learned, although at a pro level
people make things which seem impossible to be done. At
the beginning of the 90s, many innovators could be seen
in the Argentinean rivers. |

| |
In 1995 the local wakeboard was based
on international techniques and rules, developing the
first Argentinean championships ruled by the world
wakeboard association.(WWA). In 1997 for the first
time a group of Argentinean riders represented their
country abroad. GABRIELA DIAZ was able to reach the 2nd.
Place in the honorable world championship podium. |

Nowadays a free ride style is held in
the national and international competence. In this one
the rider is judged in his execution: with a maximum of
34 points, intensity: 33 points and composition: 33
points. In this way you are witness of a spectacular
show that combines the highest incredible jumps and
spins.
